Doug Bruce has more than 20 years of experience in financial and operations management, covering a broad spectrum of industries and ownership structures. He is a hands-on financial manager with small growing companies, reporting directly to diverse owner groups in a wide range of industries. Focusing on the fundamentals of aggressive cash management, sound management information and customer service, Doug has a proven track record of helping companies define and achieve their goals. From developing best practices in credit and collection to structuring and negotiating contracts, bank lines, leases and contracts, Doug works with management, customers, vendors, partners and professionals to ensure that the company’s sales and operations are well supported and its assets are protected. Doug has led operations as well as finance and administrative functions. He is a business-minded, actively participating executive with a collaborative leadership approach that effectively bridges the gap between the board room and field operations. Growing existing operations, developing budgets, strategic planning, integrating acquisitions, improving systems, implementing key metrics reporting systems and determining the efficacy of internal controls are areas where his cross-functional experience has accelerated progress and built value.

Doug’s strengths lie in his experience as a detail-oriented accounting, financial, and operations manager, as well as his understanding of the “big picture.” He possesses solid general business acumen and a thorough understanding of the business drivers together with their related impact on the financial and operational aspects of a business. Doug’s experience as a CFO extends to nearly every aspect of a business’s financial needs. He has been responsible for preparing, reviewing and explaining tax returns (income, sales, property), annual reports, SEC reports, internal financial reports, key financial indicators, sales forecasts, cash projections and operating forecasts. Additionally, Doug has experience managing and resolving a wide variety of audits, including external CPA audits, sales tax, property tax, excise tax, insurance and other governmental agencies.

His career began in the late 1980s at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, one of the Big Eight public accounting firms at the time, where he started in the firm’s audit department. As an auditor, he primarily worked at client locations and gained experience in diverse areas, including public companies, savings and loan, oil and gas, manufacturing, mutual funds, food distribution and SEC reporting.  After experience with both large and small companies, Doug decided to pursue a career in the small business sector and transferred to Deloitte’s emerging business area. As a senior consultant, he gained experience in tax preparation, financial projections, process consultation, executive coaching and information technology. There, Doug had a diverse client base in emerging businesses that included nonprofit, software, startup airline, manufacturing, retirement plans and real estate before joining CFO Enterprise in 2007.

A cum laude graduate of Wittenberg University in Springfield Ohio, Doug obtained a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting as well as a minor in economics.
